On 16 February 2022, Scott Bastick and Mark Phillips, directors of SKSi were appointed joint liquidators of W.G. Walker & Company (Ayr) Limited.

W.G Walker was established in 1811 and was a succesful, family run business whose early pioneering work led to the invention of a new method of surfacing roads and pavements using ‘tar-macadam’. In more recent times the company had become an expert in innovative flat roof systems but unfortunately the business, like so many others, fell victim to the problems caused by the pandemic.

Commenting, Scott Bastick said:

“At the time of our appointment, the company was suffering from a significant reduction in future orders and had been impacted by margin erosion due to the rapid rise in the cost of construction materials. With the help of the directors and some contractors, we were able to trade the business whilst completing a number of contracts but the continued uncertainty over future orders and raw material costs meant that we were unable to find a purchaser for the business and assets. Consequently, the business has now ceased trading with the loss of all jobs, although we are hopeful of a significant return to creditors.”
